Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for ECE day programs?

Clients are eligible for adult day programs with a valid Alberta healthcare card and who live in a community setting.

Adult Day Programs are appropriate for adults:

What is the cost of the program?

The cost of the program includes a food services fee set at $10/day (Jan-Mar 2024), and increasing to $15/day (April 2024 onwards). Participants are also responsible for their transportation costs to and from the program. There is no additional charge for the program.

How do I register for programs?

To access our programs, a referral is required. We encourage interested individuals to speak with their Home Care Case Manager to see if Adult Day Programs are a good fit for their needs.

A physician or other healthcare provider is able to provide a referral to Home Care, who in turn will ensure our program is the best fit for you or your loved one.

What can I expect after a Home Care referral?

When ECE receives a referral,, one of our Program Managers will reach out to schedule a meeting to discuss options for joining the program. This meeting will include touring the program site, discussing the activity schedule, learning more about individual needs and preferences, and answering any questions that you may have.

How does transportation to and from programs work?

Participants typically join our programs by DATS services through Edmonton Transit or are driven to programs by caregivers. For those interested in using DATS, our staff are able to assist in scheduling recurring service to and from the program.

What is the cost for DATS transportation?

City of Edmonton bus fares range from free for qualifying low-income seniors (annual income below $29,283/year), to $35 for a monthly seniors pass subject to fare changes, to a small fee for tickets.

ECE offers the option for clients/caregivers to purchase DATS tickets at $19.75 for a set of 10, which can be invoiced to you when required.

What do participants do during the day?

Program activities vary, but always include wellness-centered activities (mental aerobics, reminiscing, discussion groups, current events), client-choice activities (individual or group projects including discussion groups, crafts, board games, cards), exercise and active games (physical activity with the use of physical games, yoga, and music), lunch, and a light snack. Throughout the month, special guests may include musical performances, events through partnerships with the seniors centres, pet therapy, guest speakers, and more.

How often do participants attend programs?

Participants register for 1-3 days/week, depending on needs, preferences, and availability.

Are drop-in programs available?

Clients are required to register to attend the program for 1-3 days/week, dependent needs, preferences, and availability.

Are special dietary requirements accomodated?
